Zanzibar Gate was built by people who live here — who raised a family on this island, whose team calls it home. Every journey we create moves through communities, forests, and waters that were here long before tourism, and will remain long after. We believe a travel company owes something real to all of them.
So a share of what we earn, and a share of who we are, goes back — quietly, consistently, and always through local hands.

WHERE WE STAND

We work alongside small, carefully chosen initiatives across East Africa — the low-key ones doing far more than their size suggests. Our support moves across six fields:
Forests
conservation and restoration of the green places that hold the island's water, air, and memory
Culture
keeping Swahili heritage alive, from Stone Town's stories to traditions passed hand to hand
Art
giving local artists room, materials, and an audience beyond the island's shores
Women
supporting women-led enterprises and the quiet economies they build around them
Children
education, safety, and the simple right to a childhood full of wonder
Our travelers are always welcome to visit these initiatives — never as spectators, but as guests of people doing remarkable work.
BEYOND THE LENS — OUR PURPOSE PROGRAM
What most of these initiatives lack is not money. It is visibility.
Beyond the Lens exists to give them exactly that.
It is a full week in Zanzibar, run on our own vehicles, boats, and team, and priced with our sponsorship — because this program is not where we make our living. At the heart of the week sits one afternoon: your crew chooses a cause from the fields above, meets the people behind it, and creates something that helps their story travel — a video, photos, or simply your words.
Every crew that comes through carries one honest story back out into the world. That is the exchange, and it is the quiet engine of everything on this page.
