Beyond the Lens is not where Zanzibar Gate makes its living — and that is exactly the point.
This is our purpose program. Every week runs on our own vehicles, our own boats, and our own people — the same guides, drivers, and captains behind our private journeys. And every week, Zanzibar Gate sponsors part of the cost itself. What you pay is a discounted price, made possible because this program serves something larger than tourism.
We do this for one reason: some of the most important work in Zanzibar happens quietly — on the reefs, in the forests, in classrooms and small workshops — and what it lacks most is not money, but light. By sponsoring these journeys, we bring travelers and their stories to the people who deserve to be seen. One afternoon with a cause is the heart of the exchange. The rest of the week is simply Zanzibar, the way we know it.

One afternoon, chosen by you.
Somewhere in your week, we set aside one afternoon. You choose one cause, meet the people behind it, and create something that helps their story travel — a video, photos, or simply your words. It takes about two hours. Every other hour of the week is yours.

Before you apply.
Is this a volunteering program?
No. It's a full holiday with one meaningful afternoon inside it. You're a traveler first.
Do I need to be a photographer or influencer?
Not at all. Phone photos, a written post, a simple video — any honest way of sharing a story counts.
What if someone in our group cancels?
Your remaining crew keeps their spots at the same per-person price, and we offer the open place to our waitlist. We never penalize the people who showed up.
